Both Elvis and The Who made their first television appearances on this day.  The first plane landed at Fantasy Island, Legos were patented and some team called the Dallas Cowboys was announced as a new franchise by the NFL. A sad event happened on this day, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff.
