2004 - Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia became NATO members, joining the alliance during a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

2008 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 12,362.47, marking its highest level since January 2008 before the financial crisis.
