1. 1796-1838: Draped Bust Quarters
2. 1838-1891: Seated Liberty Quarters
3. 1892-1916: Barber Quarters
4. 1916-1930: Standing Liberty Quarters (but the composition changed in 1925)
5. 1932-1964: Washington Quarters (90% silver; 1964 is the last year with 90% silver)
United States quarters made prior to 1965 were composed of 90% silver. Quarters minted from 1965 onwards are typically made of a copper-nickel alloy and do not contain any silver.
Quarters minted in and after 1965 have a "clad" composition, which consists of a core layer of pure copper sandwiched between outer layers of copper-nickel. These quarters do not contain any silver and are commonly referred to as "clad quarters."
